Thoughts from the barracks

We live in a beautiful, but fragile, fallen world. Memento mori.

Went to get some sunshine and civilisation. Silky Jack Russell ran up to sniff my hand. A beagle howls as he saunters on. God is bombarding me with dogs.

Children continue to smile at me, under the canopy of Heath trees people glance over in gestures of empathy: we are with you.

Turns out my mother was right about everything.

I'll start social distancing tomorrow.

A man on a cellphone relays, 'Harry, the performance of Fidelio at ROH is cancelled tonight.'

The cafe workers and coffee artists, chefs, musicians; thousands and thousands and thousands of people out of work.
Even catching a momentary patch of blue sky.

A little girl passes by, confused, wondering why she can't play with her friends in the normal playground, her cries a chord of sorrow beyond her understanding. New to the world, wondering why she can't be out in it.

Biological warfare strikes the darkest places of the heart as humans of every creed and tongue file past.
